Can One Still Buy Ionic Air Purifiers From Anywhere?
I'm sure you remember the company The Sharper Image, as well as their retail stores and infomercials that ran all night. Well, those stores are gone, and some people think that ionic air purifiers went with them. Even though you can't get new ionic air purifiers with that name on them, you can still obtain one. You will have to investigate some other alternative options, however.
Ionic Pro Ionic Air Purifier
The Ionic Pro works much like the Ionic Breeze from Sharper Image did, but is quite a bit cheaper. The maintenance, or lack thereof, is the same. When it starts buzzing lightly, remove the filter element, wipe it off, and replace it. That's really all there is to it. Since it doesn't use a fan, it's more energy efficient and quieter than a HEPA air purifier, although less effective. Still, if you're looking for a cheap way to clean a 500 ft room without having yet another noisemaker in your home, this ionic air purifier might be a good choice for you.
A Cheap Generic Ionic Air Purifier Might Be Right For You
There are also some ionic air purifiers out there that don't have branding on them. They're offered by various websites or bargain stores and are generally around or less than a hundred dollars. Just because they're not branded doesn't necessarily mean they won't work as well, though you may be dependent on the retailer's warranty alone. Still, the technology behind ionic air purifiers isn't terribly complicated, so off brands should be somewhat safe.
Noisy Ionic Air Purifiers
In general, an ionic air purifier won't use a fan. It uses the constant motion of air particles being magnetically attracted to move the air and generate a light breeze. However, the only ionic air purifier to receive approval from Consumer Reports did come equipped with a fan. Although this may defeat the purpose for some, those who don't care too much about the sound might prefer these more effective ionic air purifiers. After all, there's still the advantage of decreased, filter free maintenance.
Buying A HEPA Air Purifier Instead
The other option would be a HEPA air purifier. Although they promise the same things, they work quite differently. HEPA air purifiers have filters that have to be replaced and, of course, cost money. If you use an ionic air purifier, you don't have to worry about replacing filters as the pollutants will get stuck by static on the bar that just has to be wiped off. Most studies show that ionic air purifiers are not as effective as HEPA air purifiers, though.
